It’s pronounced “or-TEE-lay.”

I’m the author of the essay collection The Groom Will Keep His Name, and the co-editor of the nonfiction anthology Body Language. I’m currently an editor, writer, and on-camera host at Condé Nast Traveler, where I cover, among many topics: food and drink, LGBTQ+ travel, credit card points and airline miles, destination advice, and sustainable and ethical travel.

Previously, I was the executive editor of the National Magazine Award-winning literary journal Catapult, where I was first its managing editor. Before that, I was the founding editor of BuzzFeed Philippines. I’m also a fellow of the Sewanee Writers’ Conference (2022) and MacDowell (2019). I’ve written for Vogue, Esquire, Afar, TripAdvisor, and BuzzFeed News, among other publications.

As an educator, I’ve taught creative writing workshops and seminars at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, Kundiman, PEN America, Catapult; for the Los Angeles Review of Books and Poets & Writers; and elsewhere.
